Leh -Ladakh is the highest plateau in the state of Jammu & Kashmir with much of it being 9800 ft above the sea level is one difficult terrain to reach, setting a health camp is totally a difficult task.
Gramin Healthcare is an organisation that collaborated with IFFCO and is organizing health camps at all the 125+ locations pan India to celebrate 50 years of IFFCO. Leh being the toughest of all did not deter the motivation of our team.
Though being extremely tough terrain people who visited our health camp were very enthusiastic about it .Our health camp saw a footfall of 200 people.
We did full health check up and provided detection for chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes.
Eye related ailments were found to be prominent in this region. As 90% of the footfall got their eye -check up done and we found a lot of people had one or another eye related .The majority had weak eyesight.
While talking to Sabeel Salam who is leading this Bharat outreach project of Gramin Healthcare we got to know few unique things.
-As compared to health camps conducted at other locations ,patients of diabetes and hypertension were relatively less in Leh.
-Due to socio-economic factors women folk in ladakh region are mainly employed as construction worker. The harsh weather condition and nature of work lead to various ortho-related conditions.
We provided full health check up at our health camp.
IFFCO'S Managing Director Dr.U.S Awasthi also visited our camp and boosted the morale of Bharat Outreach Team.
Though our team had breathing issues due to high altitude still they were determined to conduct camp and resonate with the motto of Gramin Healthcare- provide accessible and affordable healthcare services in the remote area.
